Carrick’s requirement for job

Carrick has been open about his desire to take on the role full-time, stating after a recent match that it feels like a “natural” fit, reports the Mirror.

Nevertheless, he anticipates receiving support during what could be a frenetic summer. In crucial discussions with senior executives next week, Carrick will seek guarantees that the club will pull out all the stops to secure their top transfer targets.

His anticipated promotion to permanent manager is expected to solidify Bruno Fernandes’s commitment to the club for the long haul.

The Portuguese maestro was on the brink of exiting the club last summer, but was convinced to stay by Amorim. The departure of his compatriot sparked further speculation about his future, amid claims he had become weary of the club’s perpetual state of flux.

However, with Carrick taking charge, Fernandes is prepared to pledge his long-term future to the club.

Departing midfielder Casemiro has been offering words of wisdom to Kobbie Mainoo, dubbing him the “present and the future of the club.” Both players’ fortunes have seen a turnaround under Carrick’s leadership.

Mainoo has emerged from obscurity after struggling to break into Amorim’s squad, while Casemiro has been instrumental in the latter half of the season, leading to calls for him to reconsider his decision to leave this summer.

Off the pitch, the Brazilian has played a vital role as well, providing guidance to younger players like Mainoo. On Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, he discussed the challenge of reaching out to younger players in the era of social media.

When Ferdinand suggested that it’s not possible to be as tough with young players [these days], he responded: “I try, I try, but the phone, the social media is very difficult because everyone sees on the phone, ‘Nah, you play good.’ You think, ah, you play good. Yeah, it’s top, it’s top.’

“And I try every day about this with Kobbie. He’s an unbelievable player. But he needs to train, train, train. He needs fear – I play, I don’t play. I need to push the training because this guy is the present and the future of the club.”

United are said to be ready to approach Nottingham Forest over signing England midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer.

The 25-year-old is a man in demand and Carrick faces serious competition from Manchester City to sign him this summer, with both clubs looking to reinforce in the engine room of their teams.

According to GiveMeSport, Carrick is keen to add two new players in the position, but Anderson is United’s “number one priority”.

Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle in a £35m switch, signing a five-year contract, in July 2024. He had to leave his boyhood club as the Magpies struggled to comply with financial rules.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is likely to demand at least £100m for the highly rated star and will be hoping a bidding war breaks out between the two Manchester clubs.
