Man shot, killed in parking lot outside Marriott hotel in Bethesda

A man who was staying at a Marriott hotel in North Bethesda, Maryland, is dead after police said he was gunned down in a nearby parking lot on Thursday morning.

The fatal shooting happened around 11:37 a.m. on May 14 in the 5700 block of Marinelli Road outside the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers responded to the area following reports of a shooting.

When officers got to the scene, they found a 41-year-old man who had been shot and was severely injured in the parking lot near the hotel.

MCPD officials later confirmed the victim, who was staying at the hotel, died from his injuries, prompting a homicide investigation. The man’s name has not been released to the public pending notification of the next of kin.

At this time, police said they do not have a suspect in custody. Authorities also confirmed the suspected shooter did not get on the Metro.

A large police presence remains in the area, and drivers are being urged to avoid the scene and use alternate routes.

Riders using the Red Line will experience delays in both directions at the Bethesda Metro station due to a police investigation.
