‘Chud the Builder’ given $1.25 million bond after Tennessee Courthouse shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee livestreamer known online as “Chud the Builder” was given a $1.25 million preliminary bond Friday after being charged with attempted murder and other felonies tied to a shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville.
Dalton Eatherly, 28, appeared in court the morning of May 15 after investigators said he shot another man during a confrontation on Wednesday in the middle of the day outside the courthouse complex.
According to the Associated Press, prosecutors asked the court to hold Eatherly without bond pending a full hearing next week. Judge H. Reid Poland III declined that request but set the seven-figure bond “based upon the fact of how many people were here in the courtyard or at the courthouse and the seriousness of these felonies.”
Eatherly is charged with attempted murder, employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

The shooting happened on Wednesday afternoon outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville. Investigators previously said the violence may have stemmed from a physical altercation between two men that escalated into gunfire.
Both Eatherly and the second man suffered gunshot wounds.
Authorities have not publicly identified the other person involved, and investigators have not said what sparked the confrontation.
The case has drawn national attention because of Eatherly’s controversial online persona. Eatherly, known for posting racially charged livestream videos in Tennessee, including in Nashville and Clarksville, where he films confrontations with strangers while using certain slurs to possibly “rage bait” viewership.
The livestreamer had already faced legal trouble before Wednesday’s shooting.
On May 11, Eatherly was charged in Davidson County with theft of services, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest after an incident at a Nashville steakhouse. Police said he ordered multiple entrees, appetizers, and drinks totaling more than $370 before allegedly refusing to pay after causing a disturbance inside the restaurant.

Court records also show Eatherly was previously released on bond in a separate Montgomery County harassment case dating back to November.
As of Friday afternoon, Eatherly remained held at the Montgomery County Jail.
A full bond hearing is scheduled for May 21, while a preliminary hearing is set for May 26.
