NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Bryson DeChambeau hit a drive on the seventh hole that went so far right it reached hospitality tents while his body went so far left he spun around in a circle, his face looking around in partial disbelief and partial in-on-the-joke laughter. But, really, the shot and the ensuing acrobatics drove home a greater truth: Aronimink Golf Club had Bryson in a blender during the first two rounds of the PGA Championship.
Five shots later, he tapped in for double bogey, dropping to 9 over par through just 25 holes. Even after DeChambeau birdied 16, 17 and 18 to make a late run on Friday afternoon, he shot 71 to fall to 7 over par and miss the cut by three shots.
It cemented a strange two months for the YouTube sensation. After winning consecutive LIV events in March and breaking down in tears as he won in South Africa, DeChambeau missed the Masters cut after shooting 76-74 at Augusta National. Three days after the Masters, news surfaced of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrawing from LIV Golf, leaving the startup golf league in turmoil. Then, DeChambeau withdrew from LIV Mexico City the next weekend with an injury.
Now he won’t play the weekend at a second straight major.
Here are some other notable players who missed the cut on Friday.
- Tommy Fleetwood (5 over): Fleetwood didn’t play that poorly, but he failed to capitalize on any birdie opportunities and double bogeyed the par-3 14th (with a pin location Scottie Scheffler called “absurd”) as one chip flew past the hole and another fell well short. The No. 6 player in the world, Fleetwood hasn’t finished better than T16 in a major in his last nine tries.
- Garrick Higgo (5 over): The two-stroke penalty for being late to the tee Thursday made the literal difference!
- Russell Henley (5 over): His streak of three major top 10s concludes.
- Robert MacIntyre (5 over): Just a disappointing week in approach.
- Viktor Hovland (6 over): Hovland simply couldn’t putt, ranking 91st in putting through the first two rounds despite gaining 1.94 strokes from tee to green. He’s become golf’s great entertaining rollercoaster, but he has zero top-10 finishes since Feb. 8.
- Keegan Bradley (6 over): It seems the Ryder Cup broke the recent U.S. captain. He’s dropped from No. 16 in the world as of September 2025 to No. 72 in the FedEx Cup standings.
- Adam Scott (8 over): A Friday 76 proved a frustrating end to a fantastic spring for the 45-year-old Australian great.
