Stetson stuns Florida State softball, 8-3 in opening game of regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The NCAA Tournament’s ninth overall seed got the first major surprise of regional play early Friday afternoon as the Florida State Seminoles were outslugged by the Stetson Hatters 8-3 at Joanne Graf Field.
The regional’s lowest seed jumped on the ‘Noles early with a two run shot from Logan Forman in the top of the second. FSU would answer with a solo shot of its own in the bottom of the frame off the bat of Anna Hinde but quickly fell behind again 5-1 following a three run blast from Amber Chumley in the third.
Florida State would again answer with another homer in the bottom half from Ashtyn Danley to make the score 5-3, but the Seminoles never found home plate after that. A 2 RBI single in the fourth and another run in the sixth proved too big a deficit for the home team to overcome.
FSU will now be forced to fight out of the losers bracket in the Tallahassee Regional, facing off against the loser of UCF and Jacksonville State on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
