Moldova are hoping to secure their first win as they compete against 24 other countries in the Eurovision 2026 grand final.
Moldova have never won the competition, but has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 19 times since its debut in 2005, missing only the 2025 contest so far.
Their best result is a third-place finish with “Hey Mamma” by SunStroke Project in 2017. They withdrew from the competition last year, citing “economic, administrative and artistic challenges” and “a decrease in public interest and the overall quality of the songs and artistic performances” of the national final.
Moldova’s Natalia Barbu finished 13th in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2024 with 20 points, failing to qualify for the grand final. Performing “In the Middle” on May 7, 2024, it marked the country’s first non-qualification since 2019.
This year’s hopes rest with Satoshi, who hails from the city of Cahul in southwest Moldova. He first found his passion for music after teaching himself how to play the drums, and has since released three albums.
He’s well-known in Moldova and Romania, having toured in both countries. Some UK audiences may also remember him from playing his first London show back in 2024.
With his real name Vlad Sabajuc, stage name Satoshi reflects his fascination with Japanese culture, much how is Eurovision performance will be focused on.
At the time of writing, according to Betway Moldova do have a chance of winning with odds of 40/1 pushing them into the top ten spot ahead of the Grand Final.
