Blue Nose Marathon weekend kicks off in Halifax
Thousands of people — from kids in the youth run to seasoned marathoners — will take to the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth. Marathon executive director Sherri Robbins shares what people can expect.
Traffic around downtown Halifax and Dartmouth is expected to be a little busier on Saturday and Sunday because of the Blue Nose Marathon.
There will be street closures, parking bans and transit detours to make way for the more than 10,000 runners expected on city streets on May 16 and 17 for the annual event.
A full list of weekend parking bans and street closures for the weekend are on the Blue Nose Marathon’s website.
A number of Halifax Transit buses will also be on detour routes on Saturday and Sunday. Details on those detour routes are on the Halifax Regional Municipality’s website.

“Every year, the Blue Nose Marathon brings out thousands of participants and spectators. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, allow for extra travel time and to keep an eye out for people on the streets,” the municipality said in a news release.
The Macdonald bridge will also be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday for the marathon runners.
The bridge commission noted that sidewalk and bike lanes will be open during the closure.
