Blue Jays call up Canadian Adam Macko, Tommy Nance placed on 15-day IL

Adam Macko has been called up to the majors ahead of Sunday’s rubber match against the Detroit Tigers (1:40 p.m. ET / 10:40 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+), with righty reliever Tommy Nance placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort, the team announced.

Macko was on the team’s taxi squad on Saturday as the team weighed options in their bullpen for Game 2 of the series against Detroit, per Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The lefty has appeared in 13 games for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons this season, pitching to a 4.50 ERA and 1.167 WHIP. Macko was originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2019, but was acquired by Toronto in 2022 as part of the Teoscar Hernández trade.

Macko represented Canada at the World Baseball Classic this year. He appeared in three games, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out four without allowing a run.

Nance, 25, has been a solid bullpen option for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 3.86 ERA in 21 innings over 20 appearances. He appeared in Saturday’s game against Detroit, pitching the seventh inning and striking out one to maintain a tie game in the tight contest.

It’s unclear how Nance suffered the injury.
