Patience is a virtue that Lenyn Sosa doesn’t have for the Blue Jays

The idea of patience being a virtue has been passed down through the centuries.
The message missed Lenyn Sosa, the infielder who began this season with the Chicago White Sox but now plays for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Sosa swings, and he swings some more, and he swings some more.
He has yet to walk during the 2026 MLB season, not with Chicago or Toronto.
Sosa has 95 plate appearances. Of those, 93 have ended as an official at bat. The only two not to count as at bats were one sacrifice fly and one sacrifice bunt.
Even more amazingly, Sosa has only seen a 3-ball count five times, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
Lenyn Sosa has now made 93 plate appearances this season without a walk.
He’s seen Ball 3 just five times. #BlueJays

This is the hitter Sosa has been most of his career, although it’s playing out in an extreme way so far in 2026.
He actually has a higher batting average than on-base percentage, because those two sacrifices don’t take away from the average but they do take away from the OBP.
The lack of patience does seem to detract from Sosa’s value. It can prevent him from getting the best possible pitch to hit, and he also doesn’t have the usual rhythm of reaching base of a player who might work a walk every now and again.
The Blue Jays liked Sosa enough to trade for him, so this can’t be a total surprise. It’s still fascinating to watch, and if Sosa does draw a walk at some point, it’ll be an incredibly rare sight.
