Amanda Nunes fires back with a savage reply to Ronda Rousey’s blink-and-you-miss-it win

It doesn’t appear that Amanda Nunes was overly impressed by Saturday’s main event on Netflix.

Ten years after knocking out Ronda Rousey at UFC 207, the former bantamweight champion found herself back in the cage on May 16.

This time, Rousey was headlining the first-ever MMA event promoted by Most Valuable Promotions and streamed live on Netflix, where she made quick work of Gina Carano.

It took just 17 seconds for ‘Rowdy’ to secure an armbar submission.

Many fans were hoping for a longer contest, and it seems ‘The Lioness’ was among them. However, Carano still had plenty of praise for her opponent afterwards.

Rousey was returning to action after nearly a decade away from MMA, while Carano hadn’t fought in 17 years. The former Strikeforce standout had last appeared in 2009, when she was stopped by Cris Cyborg.

In that bout, Carano came within a second of making it out of the first round. This time against Rousey, she didn’t get close to the same mark.

The matchup had caught some attention due to the names involved, but it didn’t take long for fans to question whether this fight should have been booked in the first place.

Nunes posted a neutral face emoji on social media shortly after Carano tapped out, signalling her lack of excitement about how things played out.

Carano underwent a major transformation ahead of her return, dropping nearly 100 pounds to step back into the cage. She hasn’t ruled out another fight and has even expressed interest in facing Kayla Harrison if she does come back again.

Nunes wasn’t quite as impressed once the fight actually played out

Rousey’s return was also discussed by Gina Carano’s old opponent, Cris Cyborg. Speaking on The MMA Hour, Cyborg had previously talked about the potential for a Rousey vs Carano bout to serve as a way for both women to make an exit from MMA, without having to fight against up-and-coming fighters in the division.

Carano returned to action after an extended absence, with her last appearance coming in 2009 under Strikeforce where she suffered a first-round TKO loss to Cyborg.

But it didn’t play out that way. While Rousey confirmed she would be retiring again following her quick win over Carano, her opponent left things more open-ended, suggesting she might return for another fight down the line.
