Troy Deeney has warned West Ham they could suffer back-to-back relegations and end up in League One as he assessed where things have gone horribly wrong for the club.

Opta state West Ham have just a six per cent chance of Premier League survival after the dismal 3-1 defeat at Newcastle.

The Hammers need Spurs to lose against Chelsea and Everton and to beat Leeds in order to stay up.

West Ham fans believe it is already done, especially as Everton have nothing to play for on the final day after squandering the chance to qualify for Europe with defeat to Sunderland at the weekend.

Deeney says West Ham in danger of consecutive relegations

Troy Deeney is never shy in voicing strong and often controversial opinions since becoming a pundit.

But the former Premier League striker always speaks well on the Hammers.

Deeney called it when he said Julen Lopetegui was the completely wrong fit for West Ham and would be lucky to last six months before saying Graham Potter was not the man for the Hammers too.

We are all but relegated — how would you feel about keeping Nuno in the Championship? 🧑‍💼

Or was that performance the last straw? 😡

The ex Watford captain spoke out in defence of Hammers legend Mark Noble after he was criticised by Joey Barton.

Deeney even named West Ham’s loyal fans as the best in the country.

So the Hammers should probably listen after Deeney fired a League One warning to West Ham as relegation beckons.

Speaking after the defeat at St James’ Park, where just two West Ham players scored more than 5/10, Deeney says the club could suffer consecutive relegations to end up in the third tier for the first time in their history.

Deeney says the perfect storm is brewing in east London with the discontent among fans towards the owners and the club’s recruitment of signing too many players who were used to losing coming back to haunt them.

“When you look at the core of this team, (Mateus) Fernandes, (Crysencio) Summerville, (Mads) Hermansen in goal, Kyle Walker-Peters, all these guys have played massive amounts of games for you – they’ve been relegated over the last two years,” Deeney said on CBS Sport.

Deeney: West Ham misfits could end up in League One

“The reason I don’t like that is because they’re used to losing games, when you get used to losing obviously that’s why you got relegated, it’s a trend that you go ‘Oh how do I get out of this’ and they can’t do that.

“When you start to look at this team, it’s a group of misfits, a band of misfits that normally if you look at the Championship a team like Hull, they’ve banded together and gone ‘Right we’ll show you’. This team has been dragged, pulled and cellotaped together.

That couldn’t have gone much worse! Can you explain what went wrong? 😞

“Unfortunately over the course of the season, the cracks have shown.

“Looking at the bigger picture for West Ham, I don’t know where they go (from here). The involvement of the ownership, the fans aren’t having that. The fans are all turning now. You’ve had the Graham Potter experience, you’re starting to look around now and say ‘What are we, who are we, what are we trying to do?’.

“I’m really worried that West Ham could go down next year and actually not get promoted again.”

This may sound extreme but Deeney is sounding a very salient warning.

The Championship is much more fiercely competitive than it was when West Ham were last down there 15 years ago.

West Ham are falling off the Premier League gravy train at the worst possible time.

The Hammers have posted club record £104m losses, are forecast to file further big losses exceeding £80m in their next accounts and owe a staggering £196m to other clubs in transfer instalments.

There will be a fire sale of the club’s best players this summer to boot.

So it could, as Deeney predicts, be a long, dark road back to the big time for the Irons – and things may get a lot worse before they get any better.
