Hazards include wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, hail up to the size of toonies and a risk of a tornado.

“Thunderstorms over Lower Michigan are expected to intensify this afternoon and move eastward into the area,” Environment Canada noted. “The main hazard will be damaging wind gusts. A tornado cannot be ruled out.”

Meanwhile, local utility outages are possible, and there’s a risk that roofs, fences, branches and soft shelters will be damaged.

“When thunder roars, go indoors,” Environment Canada cautioned. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.”
