First Alert Weather Day for severe weather very late Monday & very early Tuesday

  • NEXT 12 HOURS: Storms ending early Tuesday morning
  • SHORT TERM: Tuesday morning showers, cooling off
  • LONG TERM: Cooler than normal, Friday showers

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The chance for severe weather has move south of Wisconsin Dells. The First Alert Weather Day has been canceled, but a few strong storms will be possible tonight into early Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will warm back up again as the warm front passes north. Temperatures will climb up into the mid to upper-70s with breezy wind gusts out of the south and southwest of up to 25-30 MPH.

Monday features our best chance for a strong storm. While the severe weather threat, overall, has decreased, thunderstorms will still be capable of producing wind gusts around 40 mph as well as a few heavy downpours. The risk for a few strong storms will be possible from 9 PM Monday through 3 AM Tuesday. Communities south of Wisconsin Dells have a better chance for severe weather than those in North Central Wisconsin.

Looking ahead

By the Tuesday morning commute, we don’t have enough instability for storms to maintain their strength and still be severe. However, showers are still expected early (or even general thunderstorms). Rain is expected to wrap up by midday on Tuesday. A cold front will pass through behind the line of storms, and we will cool off. Temperatures top out in the low to mid-60s on Tuesday. We will still have some gusty winds.

The rest of the work week will feature cooler temperatures. Wednesday will be the coolest of days with highs below 60° throughout north central Wisconsin. Most of us will climb back into the 60s, for highs, on Thursday & Friday. Thursday morning could potentially feature some frost up north, but this is the only chance we have for frost for the foreseeable future.

We have another chance for rain on Friday. It’s too early to tell how much rainfall we will get. As of now, prospects for severe weather are slim to none. We will keep you updated as the week goes along. We will finally warm up again heading into the upcoming weekend.
