Meghan Markle marks 8-year wedding anniversary with new photos

Duchess Meghan is paying tribute to husband Prince Harry on the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary.

Meghan, on Tuesday, May 19, shared a string of behind-the-scenes photographs from the pair’s big day and evening celebrations.

“Eight years ago today…” the duchess, 44, wrote on Instagram, alongside a sunshine emoji.

The images were accompanied by the soundtrack of Paula Abdul’s song “Forever Your Girl.”

The collection of photographs offers an intimate look back at the couple’s wedding day, which took place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, 2018. Their union, on a sunny spring day in England, was largely celebrated on both sides of the pond, sparking royal fever and hope for a modern and multicultural monarchy.

In one black and white image, the pair are seen staring lovingly at each other, Meghan’s 16-foot-long silk tulle veil flowing behind her. The veil was secured with Queen Mary’s diamond tiara, which was made in 1932 and loaned to Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Meghan’s wedding dress was created by British designer Clare Waight Keller, who, in 2017, was named the first female artistic director at French fashion house Givenchy.

In a separate Instagram post, the duchess shared images from the couple’s private evening wedding reception, which took place at Frogmore House, a royal residence in Windsor. In one photo, Meghan, wearing a high-neck gown, twirls in the arms of her new husband. In another image, the pair share a kiss on the dancefloor.

The duchess credited the images to photographer Chris Allerton, whom she referred to as “wonderful.”

The late Queen Elizabeth hosted the couple’s lunchtime wedding reception at St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle, which was attended by around 600 people. Guests were served an array of dishes, including slow-roasted pork belly and a selection of sweet canapés.

Elton John performed at the lunchtime reception in what British media described as a tribute to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

The newlyweds then drove themselves to their private reception at Frogmore in an electric convertible car.

Meghan and Harry began dating in 2016 and announced their engagement in November 2017. A year after the pair married, they welcomed their son, Prince Archie, in May 2019 and their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

In 2020, the couple stunned Britain and much of the world when they announced they were stepping back from their senior royal roles. They currently reside in California, Meghan’s home state.
