Shock Fox News Poll Shows Trump’s Approval Rating In The Toilet With Republicans

Keep an eye on the back of Donald Trump’s hand, because Fox News just released a bruising new poll for the president.

The poll, based on a sample of 1,002 registered voters from May 15-18, found Trump’s overall approval rating sits at 39%. That’s the lowest of his second term, and just one point higher than his lowest ever, dating back to October 2017.

Trump’s overall approval has dropped 10 points since the beginning of his term, having dropped 3 points alone in the last month.

Concern about the economy seems to be the predominant worry. Trump’s overall approval on the economy is a dismal 29%, down from an already low 34% in April.

Things are especially dour for Trump among Republicans. The poll noted a 7-point rise in disapproval on the president’s handling of the economy among the group since April.

A slim majority of Republicans ― 51% ― disapprove of Trump’s handling of inflation. Overall, only 24% of voters approve of Trump’s job slowing inflation, down from 35% in January.

Other Republican constituencies are fracturing as well. While 88% of Republicans who identified as MAGA say Trump’s policies will help the country, only 43% of non-MAGA Republicans said the same. Overall, 57% of registered voters think Trump’s policies are hurting the country.

“Despite consistently strong GOP support, the president’s numbers are leaking a bit,” Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who helped conduct the poll for Fox, told the outlet. “Make no mistake; it’s all about affordability. Independents jumped ship in 2025, and now non-MAGA Republicans and other core constituencies are wavering.”

That’s likely no surprise to Trump, who said last week he’s unconcerned about Americans’ increasingly untenable financial situations.

“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody,” Trump told a reporter, who’d asked if voters’ concerns about the economy would push him to end his unpopular war with Iran.

“Not even a little bit,” he added.

The Fox numbers align with a New York Times/Siena poll released Monday that also found Trump’s favorability is at the lowest point of his second term, with 49% strongly disapproving of his job performance, nearly two-thirds saying the war with Iran was the wrong decision, and 70% disapproving of how he’s handled the cost of living.

Polling by CBS/YouGov from mid-May also showed Americans don’t think Trump is helping them financially and is now actively making things worse.

Just 14% of Americans in that poll said Trump is making them financially better off, while 57% said he’s making things worse.
