Montreal now faces Carolina in Eastern Conference finals

The Montreal Canadiens are only one step away from reaching the Stanley Cup finals.

After an intense playoff series against the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal won Game 7 in overtime on May 18.

They now face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals.

The series starts on May 21 with Game 1 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The last time the Habs were in the Eastern Conference finals was in 2021.

This might explain why their celebrations were so huge during Games 6 and 7 against Buffalo.

How huge? Scientist Yajing Liu told CBC News that there were spikes in seismic activity near the Canadiens’ arena, the Bell Centre, after they scored.

The shaking was comparable to a 0.5 magnitude earthquake.

Liu said she can’t say for certain that the cheering made the earth shake, but she hopes to move her seismometer closer to the Bell Centre for their next games so she can find out.
