Spencer Miles Was Great, Jays Win

I’m thinking it is time to forget about the ‘opener’ thing for Spencer Miles, just start him. But then again, if it ain’t broke….

Miles was amazing, 4.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. He was unhittable . I want him keeping the fifth starter role. He was awarded a hold today because baseball is stupid.

Braydon Fisher was our first opener. He got 4 outs, all of them strikeouts, giving up just a walk.

Adam Macko followed and also got 4 outs with 1 hit against, but only 2 strikeouts. It is great to see him pitching so well. The official scorer gave him the win.

Tyler Rogers got the eighth, he gave up a walk but got a double play. 9th hold.

And Jeff Hoffman got the save. And we were all calm and collected when he came into the game. 2 of his 3 outs were strikeouts. Save #4.

And the offense chipped in their usual two runs.

One in the first. Vlad took a one-out walk, stole second (his 4th of the season) and scored on a Daulton Varsho double.

And, George Springer homered in the seventh inning.

We had 7 hits, Ernie Clement had 3 of them. Springer, Vlad, Varsho, and Valenzuela had one each. Kazuma Okamoto (who did have great defensive play at third), Lenyn Sosa, Myles Straw and Davis Schneider all had 0 fors.

Jays of the Day: Spencer Miles (0.32 WPA), Rogers (0.09), Hoffman (0.09), and Springer (0.09). And let’s hand one out to Clement, Fisher and Macko.

Other Award: Straw (-0.11) and Okamoto (-0.9) had the number. I’m feeling generous and not giving Oka one, because of the play on defense. And Straw made a nice catch on a popup that, it seemed, no one was going to get, so let’s let him off the hook too.

The Jays head back to Toronto to face the Pirates for three games. Tomorrow it is a 7:00 start. Bubba Chandler (1-5, 5.14) vs Kevin Gausman (3-3, 3.45).
