The injury to Robertson-Harris is a potentially significant hit to the Giants’ defensive line that is attempting to move on from Dexter Lawrence in a new scheme. Robertson-Harris, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound tackle, is a 10-year veteran who started all 17 games for the Giants last year. He primarily played as a defensive end for the Giants in their 3-man front, usually lining up as a B-gap defender or over the tackle as a 5-technique.
Losing Robertson-Harris is a definite blow to the defense, however the Giants are in a better position to weather it than they might have been.
The Giants have moved to improve the depth of their defensive line following the trade of Dexter Lawrence. They signed former Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris and claimed former Chiefs defensive tackle Zacch Pickens off of waivers. Both players fit a similar mold as Robertson-Harris and would have challenged him for his starting job. The Giants also signed former Cardinals defensive tackle Leki Fotu, who can fill both a DE and NT role, after trading Lawrence, as well as former Carolina Panthers DT Sam Roberts earlier in free agency.
Robertson-Harris is in the second year of the $9 million contract he signed with the Giants in the 2025 off-season. This is the second Achilles injury to a Giants’ player so far this year, with UDFA cornerback Thaddeus Dixon suffering a torn Achilles last Thursday (May, 14th).
