Former Giants player Lawrence Tynes is facing intense backlash after criticizing Abdul Carter’s social media post

Former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes found himself in the crosshairs Sunday after calling out Giants defensive end Abdul Carter. Carter had publicly questioned quarterback Jaxon Dart’s appearance at a Donald Trump rally Friday in Suffern, N.Y.

Dart’s brief introduction and embrace with Trump led to Carter taking to social media to question what was happening.

“Thought this (bleep) was AI,” Carter said on X early Saturday morning. “What (are) we doing man.”

Carter later said he spoke to Dart about the appearance.

“Me & JD6 are good!” Carter said. “We spoke earlier as men. Yall can keep yall narratives.”

Carter’s initial comment prompted Tynes, who spent six seasons with the Giants, to respond publicly.

“The locker room is a sacred place because it brings together everyone from all walks of life and beliefs for one common goal,” Tynes said. “Calling a teammate out publicly for his political views and to get attention is nasty work.”

Tynes’ comments were not well received by many. Sports commentator Jemele Hill took issue with the optics of Tynes’ argument.

“So Jaxon Dart gets to publicly express his political beliefs, but Abdul Carter doesn’t?” Hill asked. “If this is about locker room sanctity and leadership, is it a good idea for the face of the franchise to attend a political rally for a president that is considered to be hugely divisive?”

NFL reporter and radio host Jason La Canfora shared a similar view.

“Wealthy white guy who benefitted directly from primarily Black men manning the most dangerous positions so he could make millions kicking a football has no problem with white QB backing a racist, fascist, criminal scumbag but the Black guy is the problem,” La Canfora said. “MAGA is systemic racism.”

Former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas joined in by taking a shot at Tynes.

“Dog! You were a kicker!” Douglas replied. “Ain’t nobody in the locker room (bleep) with you like that!”

Although the comments were overwhelmingly against Tynes, a few people, including social media content creator Nicky The Good, defended him.

“It’s this simple,” Nicky said of Tynes’ take.
