Why Isn’t Taylor Swift at the American Music Awards?

Despite being nominated for eight American Music Awards in 2026, including for artist of the year and album of the year for Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift is not attending the actual AMAs ceremony, as confirmed by People. Swift is already the most awarded artist in AMAs history, with 40 wins under her belt. So, what will Swift be doing instead of raising the roof from her front row seat at the AMAs?

There has been no specific reason reported, so all that’s left is speculation. It may be that Swift is so overwhelmed with plans for her upcoming wedding to Travis Kelce — which we believe will be on July 3 — that she can’t spare the time to attend the awards. But let’s be honest, this seems unlikely. Swift once flew directly from an Eras Tour date in Tokyo to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas within 24 hours. There is no scheduling obstacle Swift cannot overcome if she wants to. The truth is that Swift has not actually attended the AMAs since 2022. There were no 2023 or 2024 AMAs, but in 2025, Swift was nominated for six AMAs and still did not attend.

As with all things Swift, there are plenty of theories explaining her absence. But she, herself, has remained mum.
