Leatherhead Donkey Derby cancels racing over bank holiday weather

An annual bank holiday donkey derby in Surrey will not include donkey racing this year over fears about the soaring temperatures.
Leatherhead Lions Club said its event on Monday would no longer include the donkeys or a dog show “for the welfare and comfort of the animals”.
The decision comes amid rising temperatures, with Monday expected to be the hottest May day on record, according to the Met Office.
Temperatures could rise as high as 34C in parts of the UK, with Leatherhead expected to see a peak of 33C according to forecasts.
