Considering what a circus Brand Risk Promotions is, it’s kind of shocking that it took 14 events before the Adin Ross-backed celebrity and influencer fight series got itself into a fight fixing scandal. But we’re here now.
During this past Saturday’s Brand Risk 14 event, meme rapper Supa Hot Fire knocked out Kim Kardashian sex tape participant Ray J in the second round of their amateur MMA match. After Ray J cleared the cobwebs, he got on the mic and straight out claimed Supa Hot wasn’t supposed to win.
“Yo, I thought we had a plan!” Ray J yelled on the mic. “I don’t wanna say too much because I don’t wanna get anybody in trouble but damn, we took an L tonight … How much money we lost!”
Adin Ross has set up Brand Risk to feature the freakiest of freakshow fights, but it still needs commission participation to happen. This latest event happened in the UFC’s Meta Apex under the eye of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who clearly don’t want to be sanctioning fights that are fixed.
Ross said they’d be looking into the situation on a post-fight stream.
“Ray J, obviously what he said after the fight, Supa Hot not throwing a f–king punch in the first round, we need to look into that, we need to investigate that,” Ross said. “Supa Hot has been nothing but a great fighter and he’s been great and Supa looked like himself in the second round.”
“Now do I know why Ray J said what he said? No I don’t. We’re taking that s–t very seriously.”
Ross has a lot of reasons to try and clear this up as quickly as possible. Future sanctioning difficulties could sink his Brand Risk promotion just as big investors like Drake have started to come on board. Ross allegedly spent $1.5 million moving the event from his warehouse in Miami to the Meta Apex in Nevada.
To have this growing freakshow empire come crashing down because Ray J fixed a fight? That would certainly be something to witness.
