Will Tom Selleck Appear in ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2? Sonequa Martin-Green Weighs In

What To Know

  • Sonequa Martin-Green shares her hopes for Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck to appear on Boston Blue.
  • Several Blue Bloods cast members have already appeared on Boston Blue, and the spinoff’s creators maintain an open invitation for more original stars to join future episodes.
  • Tom Selleck has expressed uncertainty about reprising his role as Frank Reagan.

Sonequa Martin-Green says Boston Blue has asked Tom Selleck to appear on the spinoff, and she’s hoping that one day the Blue Bloods star will say yes. Could it happen in Boston Blue Season 2?

Boston Blue Season 1 featured four Blue Bloods stars: Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), and Will Hochman (Joe Hill). Hochman appeared in the Boston Blue Season 1 finale on May 22 to help Martin-Green’s Lena, who was grappling with meeting new family members she never knew existed until adulthood, just like Joe in Blue Bloods. Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie’s (Vanessa Ray) baby was revealed earlier in Season 1 as well.

Ramirez will be back as Baez in Boston Blue Season 2, premiering this fall on CBS, and the creators of the series have previously said that the stars of Blue Bloods have an open invitation to appear on the Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) spinoff. After the finale, Martin-Green said that Selleck is on everyone’s minds for a cameo. She revealed that he’s “always getting asked.”

“We’ve been talking about Mr. Selleck for a long time,” Martin-Green told Woman’s World. “He is always getting asked, and as Donnie always says, the door’s open. We would love to have him and we will make sure the story is just right because Tom is so adamant about the story, as he should be and as we all should be. I think it would be great if we can have him, and I’m excited for whatever story it ends up being if he does come.”

“I want everybody from Blue Bloods on this show, but it’d be nice to see Tom [Selleck],” she added.

Martin-Green told TV Insider that the Boston Blue team is happy to welcome Blue Bloods stars because their series is “standing on [their] shoulders.”

“I feel like I could speak for everybody when I say this, but I want as many [Blue Bloods] people as we can get,” she told us. “Let’s continue building this world. Let’s keep this world, this world that Blue Bloods established. Let’s just keep building it. Let’s keep enriching it. Let’s have people from our predecessor come. We’re standing on the shoulders of Blue Bloods. And so every single time that somebody from our predecessor, every single time they can come, it adds to us. It adds a richness. It adds a legitimacy to us. That’s what I think. And so I want everybody to come. But yeah, we were super excited to have [Will Hochman], and he fit right in. Everybody just fits right in. It was such a joy.”

Boston Blue mentioned Frank throughout the first season. Selleck has said in the past that he’s not sure he wants to play Frank Reagan again. He was also vocal about his disappointment that Blue Bloods ended.

“I don’t know if I would do Boston Blue — that’s another show,” Selleck told Hour Detroit in November 2025. “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure Blue Bloods has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”

Blue Bloods ran for 14 successful seasons on CBS. Selleck said its cancellation “was a huge disappointment,” adding, “I still don’t know why CBS did it. If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television.”
