Frontier Developments have revealed Planet Zoo 2, a sequel to the hit zoo management game that will expand in exciting new directions to feature both aquatic and flying creatures when it launches of PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 13th October 2026.
Planet Zoo 2 promises a major step forward on the 2019 original, introducing new kinds of animals as you’re able to build aviaries for flying creatures, and aquariums for sea creatures. The game will also further its ecological and conservationist message, allowing players to restore natural habitats and release animals into wildlife reserves.
This is backed by a “generational leap forward in animation and animal behaviour”, and with high-fidelity fur, features and scales to make the most realistic animals yet. Naturally, you’ll have to try to meet all of their needs when crafting their habitats, both to keep animals happy and allow your guests to take in their majesty.
Beneath the water, Frontier have revealed that the game will feature Black-tipped Reef Sharks, Hawksbill Turtles, and shoals of fish. You’ll be able to cater to both fresh and saltwater animals with your aquariums, which are fully customisable habitats and not simply placeable tanks in the environment. Zookeepers will don wet suits and pass through airlocks in order to ensure that they’re kept in good condition.
Flying animals will then have to be housed in aviaries, whether they’re Toco Toucans or Secretary Birds. These will also be fully editable, placing support poles for the habitat cover to generate dynamically, and allowing for zoo guests to walk through suitable aviaries.
When it’s possible, you can then release these animals back into the wild, taking on conservation projects around the world to revitalise Wildlife Reserves with ecosystems that animals can thrive in outside of captivity.
