Georgia baseball vs Liberty live updates, TV channel for NCAA Athens Regional

Georgia baseball and Liberty will face each other for the first time in 13 years when they clash in an NCAA Athens Regional winners bracket game Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs (47-12) are the No. 3 national seed. They crushed Long Island 18-2.

Liberty (42-19) is the No. 3 regional seed. The Flames from Conference USA took down No. 2 seed Boston College 4-3 in a game Friday in the double-elimination tournament.

Liberty is 23-7 away from home this season.

“We’ve got to come out focused and be ready to continue to play,” Georgia coach Wes Johnson said after the Bulldogs finished off LIU Saturday morning in a game that had been suspended by rain on Friday night. “The maturity of this team helps us with multiple games.”

Liberty is playing in its first NCAA Tournament since 2022 and is now 7-16 all-time in the tournament.

Liberty had 13 hits including five doubles in the win over Boston College, including two from shortstop Tanner Marsh.

Georgia will start righty Dylan Vigue, who gave up six runs and two homers in 2 2/3 innings in his last start in the SEC Tournament in an 8-7 Bulldogs win against Florida.

“Feel real good,” Johnson said. “He’s had a really good week, man. His bullpen the other day was really, really good. I’m excited to see him out there. I think he’s a good matchup, you know. He’s got to throw strikes like everybody knows.”

Georgia baseball vs. Liberty live updates

Matt Scott set down Liberty 1-2-3 in the third, getting two flyouts sandwiched around a ground out. We go to the fourth with Georgia up 4-2.

Kenny Ishikawa homered with one out to right field into the Kudzu and Ryan Wynn followed with a blast that went 426 feet over the Wells Fargo sign in left field. Georgia leads 4-2.

Dylan Vigue walked Liberty’s No. 7 and 8 hitters with one out and Wes Johnson had seen enough. Matt Scott is in the game. Vigue went 1 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 run (1 earned) with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Vigue threw only 31 pitches. Scott did his job, getting a fly out and getting Tanner Marsh to strike out swinging. It’s 2-2 going to the third.

Liberty pitcher Bradley Zayac faced a bases loaded jam after walks to Kolby Branch, Tre Phelps and Daniel Jackson but with two outs Rylan Lujo grounded out to third. Zayac has thrown 48 pitches already.

Liberty got two run in the first inning. Tanner Marsh singled on a ball that bounced off pitcher Dylan Vigue’s foot. He stole second and with one out scored on an RBI single to center from Jordan Jaffe to make it 2-1. Liberty had runners on first and second after a Vigue walk. What looked like a tailor-made 6-4-3 double play instead became another run on a throwing error from second baseman Ryan Wynn. It’s 2-2 going to the second.

Georgia is the “away” team in this one so batted first. Daniel Jackson smacked a two-run homer over the 370 foot sign in right center with nobody out. That scored Tre Phelps who singled to center after falling behind 0-2 to starter Bradley Zayac. Jackson now has 29 homers. That was it for Georgia. Heading to bottom of the first.
