As the conversation about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s foul-drawing heats up, one San Antonio Spurs fan has found a unique way to poke fun at the Oklahoma City Thunder’s two-time MVP.
A woman seated near the floor of Frost Bank Center on Sunday brought out a fake Oscar to mock the Thunder star’s reputation for embellishing contact, turning one of the NBA postseason’s loudest debates into a courtside prop during the Western Conference finals.
On a play in the first quarter, Gilgeous-Alexander fell right at her feet, and she was in perfect position for the presentation.
The woman and her trophy quickly went viral across social media as the Spurs built a double-digit lead over the Thunder. Gilgeous-Alexander has spent much of the postseason hearing frustration from opposing crowds over his trips to the free-throw line.
In Game 3, Spurs fans mocked Gilgeous-Alexander with “Flopper!” chants. One fan even arrived wrapped in bubble wrap with a blue No. 2 taped to his chest.
One thing became clear Sunday night: Gilgeous-Alexander has officially entered the stage of superstardom where opposing fans make homemade trophies about the opposing player.
