CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WITN) – ECU Baseball will be fighting to keep its NCAA tournament hopes alive today.
UNC Baseball defeated ECU 7-5 in the winner’s bracket of the Chapel Hill Regional Saturday evening.
In a double-elimination format, the Pirates will now play VCU in the losers’ bracket at noon today. The winner will face the Tar Heels again in the championship, but will need to beat them twice to win the region.
ECU beat Tennessee on Friday in 14 innings, and then the Volunteers lost to the Rams on Saturday to end their season.
The Pirates are now 1-2-1 against North Carolina on the year after splitting a series with them in February of the regular season.
