French Open 2026 live updates: Day 9 latest with Aryna Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka and Frances Tiafoe in action today

Frances Tiafoe (19) has never reached a Slam final in his career.

You would think, given his affinity for hard courts, that his best chance would be at the U.S. Open.

He’s an entertaining presence on and off the court and he’s been on the precipice of a final appearance at Flushing Meadows twice, but lost in the semifinals to Carlos Alcaraz (2022) and Taylor Fritz (2024).

Now, the chance at his maiden Slam seems the highest. On the clay courts at Stade Roland Garros of all places.

With no Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the draw, Tiafoe has as good of a chance as anybody to capture the French Open title.

He rallied from two sets to love down in the third round en route to a thrilling five-set victory over Jaime Faria. Now, Tiafoe faces Matteo Arnaldi for a spot in the French Open quarterfinals.

Tiafoe and Arnaldi have split the career head-to-head 1-1.
