Beatriz Hatz was born on October 7, 2000, in Colorado without a fibula in her right leg. Fibular hemimelia is a rare birth condition that affects the development of the lower leg and can lead to differences in leg length, foot structure, and mobility. To help her live a more active life, doctors amputated her leg below the knee during infancy.Her medical journey did not stop there. Reports show that Hatz underwent 10 surgeries while growing up, including bilateral knee procedures. These operations helped straighten her knees and allowed her to better use a prosthetic leg.Despite those challenges, Hatz built a successful athletic career. She was named the U.S. Paralympics Track and Field High School Female Athlete of the Year in 2018. Since then, she has earned medals at major events, including the World Championships, Parapan American Games, and World Junior Championships.
