Monday Cheese Curds: Christian Watson’s breakout can’t come soon enough

Believe it or not, Christian Watson has yet to eclipse 620 receiving yards in a single season.
Watson has put up between 611 and 620 yards in three of his first four years in the NFL, but injuries have been a huge reason for that. He has missed at least two games in every NFL campaign, with two years cut short by at least seven games. Still, 2025 was his best year from an efficiency perspective, even as he was coming off a torn ACL suffered late in 2024.
Last year, he set career highs in yards per game (61.1), catch rate (63.6%), and success rate (61.8%), as well as touchdowns per game (0.6). It’s a sign that he is on the verge of a breakout that the Packers would desperately love to see start right away in week one of the 2026 season.
Watson’s explosiveness makes him one of a trio of Packers receivers with exceptional speed, joining Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden. If that trio can all stay healthy and if Tucker Kraft — who was playing like one of the best tight ends in football before his own ACL injury last year — can do the same, this offense could be poised to deliver big play after big play.
But Watson might be the straw that stirs this drink, particularly if the Packers go more pass-heavy this year amid their questions at running back. If he gets off to a good start in 2026, team success would surely follow, as well as a big new contract for Watson.
