The Indian football team will face Tajikistan in two international football friendlies during the June FIFA international window between June 5 and 9.
The first India vs Tajikistan football match will take place at the TALCO Arena in Tursunzoda, while the second will be held at the Hisor Central Stadium. Both matches will start at 8:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) and will be available to watch on live streaming in India.
India slipped to 137th in the latest FIFA football rankings after consecutive defeats to Jamaica and Zimbabwe at the recently concluded Unity Cup and will look to bounce back against world No. 103 Tajikistan.
Head coach Khalid Jamil has named a 22-member Indian squad for the two friendlies, with Ryan Williams ruled out due to injury.
The attacker sustained a knock during India’s opening Unity Cup fixture and has been replaced by forward Parthib Gogoi.
Lallianzuala Chhangte is expected to lead India’s attack while Edmund Lalrindika, who won the Indian Super League title with East Bengal last month, is also in the team.
Experienced goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and defender Sandesh Jhingan are also in the India squad.
India defeated Tajikistan 2-1 at the CAFA Nations Cup last year – their first win over the Central Asian side in 17 years.
The victory also marked Khalid Jamil’s first match in charge of the Blue Tigers, who went on to clinch a bronze medal at the eight-nation tournament.
Since that defeat to India, Tajikistan have remained unbeaten and topped Group A of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers with victories over the Maldives and Timor-Leste.
They also played out a 2-2 draw against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Philippines.
Overall, India and Tajikistan have faced each other six times in international football. Tajikistan hold the edge with three wins, while India have won twice. One match ended in a draw.
