After the trailer of Kantara Chapter 1 came out, which was the only major piece of promotional material ahead of the film’s release, there’s been intense speculation about what Rishab Shetty is set to present this time around. In the trailer of the film set during the Kadamba dynasty years, there’s simmering tension between a hefty-tax collecting king and the indigenous people of Kantara, who were forced to pay and then decide against it, under the leadership of Berme (Rishab Shetty).

And if Berme’s refusal to play ball with the King is not bad enough, he’s also gotten increasingly close to the princess Kanakavathi (Rukmini Vasanth), much to the chagrin of her family. This is the conflict that Rishab has made audiences privy too, but he has repeatedly said since then that the trailer has barely revealed anything and that much more is set to unfold. The film is, after all, nearly 3 hours in run time.

A lot of layers to the story of Kantara Chapter 1

On the surface level, the basic plot from the trailer is not the most exciting, but Rishab assures that there is far more as one goes deeper into the world of Kantara. One of the speculations that had come up after the trailer was that Rishab’s character Berme was actually the daiva Bermer. While the filmmaker has dispelled this, he acknowledges that there is a pivotal reason for him being named that way.

Most importantly, Shetty urges viewers to go back and take a closer look at all the posters of both films, right from the first ones in 2022, that depicted a fiery semi-circle in the backdrop to the ones now, that have a full circle. The relevance of the fiery circle, where Shiva and his father disappear, will be explored in this Chapter. The first look of the film and the trailer also featured a blood-soaked fierce entity deep within a well. Could it be Panjurli? Or is it Guliga? Everything will be revealed, come October 2, when Lantara Chapter 1 releases in theatres in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali.
