Swords Of Legends Shines With Its Combat In New Gameplay Trailer

During the Summer Game Fest Showcase, developer Aurogon Shanghai unveiled a brand-new trailer focused on gameplay and boss fights for its upcoming action-adventure RPG, Swords of Legends. Throughout the course of the trailer, fans got a look at the featured boss, Kong Kong Zi, a look at the Spirit Companion system, and the overall combat system.
Up against Kong Kong Zi in the trailer, Sipan meets a worthy adversary with a penchant for the theatrical. Kong Kong Zi, Master of Cantrip, uses moves easily connected with and staged in relation to luohuo, aka Traditional Chinese Conjuring. This is the level of detail Aurogon Shanghai is bringing to the game, drawing on cultural roots and traditions, introducing audiences to the centuries-old Chinese tradition of close-up stage magic.
We also get a first look at the Spirit Companion system, where in the trailer, we see the Ox, another spectral traveler from the netherworld, accompanying Sipan on his journey. Players can tap into the system, which pulls a soul from the spirit realm for use in battle. With the assistance of your spirit companion, they can join players in linked finishers against your enemy, but also the helpful soul can absorb some of the damage meant for you in gameplay.
You can get a look at the Swords of Legends gameplay trailer below and check out these fun details for yourself before going on over to Steam and adding the game to your wishlist.
What is Swords of Legends about?
The official sequel to the popular Gujian series, Swords of Legends is a single-player action-adventure RPG set in the primordial age, a world drawn from the strange tales of classical Chinese literature, where mortals, gods and wandering souls walk the same earth.
Returned to the mortal realm by the Judge of King Yama, you walk again as a Sipan, an Arbiter of the Underworld, sent to seek out souls who cannot find their way home. Playing as Sipan, players can wield mystical techniques, divine artifacts, and powerful weapons against a host of otherworldly horrors.
You can summon captured souls to fight by your side, bind enemies with spiritual seals, or unleash devastating multi-target attacks to turn the tide of battle. Every foe presents a unique challenge, requiring you to master your abilities to exploit their weaknesses strategically.
The game is built using Unreal Engine 5, immersing players in an atmospheric realm where every location holds both beauty and danger. The world draws inspiration from ancient Chinese literature and cultural folklore, featuring haunting melodies of traditional Eastern music and mythical creatures.
Key Features to expect from Swords of Legends
Diverse Combat

- Read each enemy’s weakness, and weave your powers together to bring down every kind of enemy that crosses your path.
An Ancient Chinese World Comes to Life
- Step into a world born of ancient Chinese myth, where the gods, demons, and beasts of The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shan Hai Jing) walk the earth once more, and powered by Unreal Engine 5.
- The visuals offer much to stimulate the imagination and titilate the senses. From Lotus ponds stretch to the horizon, weathered temples drifting with leaves, lonely inns hiding in the mountains, there’s much to take in.
- The natural world is not just the focus. So, is the supernatural, where flower-spirits, headless ghosts, beauties with painted skin, a thousand faces of the living and the dead, woven into a scroll that spans both sides of death.
In Finding Wayward Souls, You Will Rediscover Your Own
- For Sipan, not every soul will come easily. Some may linger, hoping to fulfill the one final wish they never had granted. You must find ways to bring them to heel, either through talking with them, defeating them, and eventually, making their soul find a special calm.
- With each soul you win over, you gain an ally in battle. But with each soul brought over to the other side, Sipan (and perhaps you, dear player) will start to question what kind of life you want to live. And whether or not you’ve been living it up to this point.
