Sir Lewis Hamilton seems rejuvenated heading into this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.
The 41-year-old F1 driver is finally in high spirits after a gruelling first year with Ferrari, where he went without a podium finish across 24 races and ended the 2025 season 86 points behind team-mate Charles Leclerc in the Drivers’ Championship.
This year has looked far brighter for the Brit, having recently achieved the best Grand Prix result of his Ferrari career by finishing second at the Canadian Grand Prix. That has taken Hamilton up to fourth in the standings though he could well see that position improve after this weekend’s action.
Despite Mercedes’ dominance in the early part of the 2026 season, Ferrari are a major threat at the Monaco Grand Prix. That’s due to the unique challenge presented by the Monte Carlo circuit, whereby its slow-speed corners suit the Italian team far better than their rivals.
Ferrari have been described by both reigning world champion Lando Norris and four-time consecutive race winner Kimi Antonelli as the team to beat. And the seven-time world champion will be keen to capitalise on that by claiming his first Grand Prix win with Ferrari, as WalesOnline brings you the latest regarding his life off the track.

The racing legend’s eye-watering wealth has seen him ascend the Sunday Times Rich List – an annual list of the 350 wealthiest people or families residing in the UK. Hamilton ranks 294th in 2026, up from 324th last year, with an estimated net worth of £435million.
Having competed in one of the most lucrative sports for 19 years, Hamilton has made a fortune during his time with McLaren, Mercedes and now Ferrari. He reportedly earns around £52m-per-year on his current contract with the Italian outfit.
His F1 salary across his career has been bolstered by performance-linked bonuses and team successes. Beyond the track, Hamilton is one of the most marketable athletes on the planet, having secured endorsement deals with global brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Puma, Sony, Dior, IWC and Lululemon, which add around £22m to his annual income.
Hamilton has also diversified his business portfolio by launching his own film production company, Dawn Apollo Films, which produced the F1 movie, and being a part-owner of the NFL’s Denver Broncos. He also co-founded Almave, a non-alcoholic tequila brand.
Name change plans

Hamilton previously stated he would like to pay tribute to his mother by legally adding her maiden name to his middle name. He said in 2022: “I’m really proud of my family’s name: Hamilton.
“Actually, none of you might know that my mum’s [sur]name is Larbalestier. And I’m just about to put that in my name.”
Hamilton went on to reveal he intended to adopt the revised name when racing in future competitions. He had hoped to do so in 2025 but it’s not yet clear when he will officially change it.
Sharing his thoughts on family surnames after marriage, Hamilton added: “Because I don’t really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”
