Sakura Johnson currently sits 8th in the World Rankings, just 2 spots behind Moore.
So far this season, Sakura Johnson has finished inside the Top-10 in every single one. Her best finish was a 3rd place finish during the 4th event.
The early success began in the offseason for the surfer.
“This offseason, I honestly wanted to attack more of just relaxing my mind because I feel like you’re in such a fight or flight mode when you’re traveling because you are constantly on the go,” said Sakura Johnson.
During the WSL Season, it is a lot of traveling as surfers will travel across the entire globe and a big part of success is the ability to find the rest.

“It’s really hard. But, when you’re going to somewhere like from Hawaii to Europe and it’s like almost 12 hour difference, you try to like go to sleep later. I wake up later like the few days before. So you’re when you arrive, it doesn’t hit you as hard,” said Sakura Johnson.
She will look to keep that mentality and ability to stay healthy with proper preparation throughout the season as Sakura Johnson looks for her 1st win of the season.
The El Salvador Pro 1st call is Friday, June 5th. Sakura Johnson will find out her opponent after the 1st round is completed.
