IND vs AFG, One-off Test, Day 2: Who is Mohammad Saleem Safi?
Born in the city of Baghlan in Northern Afghanistan, Saleem Safi made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo in February 2024. However, the youngster endured a forgettable outing as he bowled only 12.1 overs conceding 57 runs before being ruled out midway through the game due to a strained left hamstring. Nevertheless, his fitness level seems to have vastly improved, evidenced by bowling indefatigably in some unforgiving conditions and on a largely unresponsive surface.
Saleem Safi made his Test debut on February 25, 2019 for Kunduz province 2018–19 Mirwais Nika Provincial 3-Day trophy. The same year in September saw him make his first List A appearance for Amo Region at the 2019 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament. It was in February 2021 that the youngster got his first call-up to the national team’s squad but it wasn’t July 2023 that he made his international debut. Having played three white-ball internationals so far, Saleem Safi is yet to take a wicket but his Test career looks promising.
