Fernando Cruz gets all fired up after Yankees reliever stops Red Sox threat late in Game 2

Yankees vs Red Sox analysis with Pete Caldera, SNY’s Anthony McCarron

Yankees beat writer Pete Caldera and SNY’s Anthony McCarron break down the Yankees vs Red AL Wild Card Series.

It was pure emotion.

Yankees reliever Fernando Cruz let it all out after Red Sox hitter Trevor Story’s long fly ball to center field was put away by Trent Grisham, ending Boston’s bases-loaded threat in the top of the seventh inning of Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series.

In a 3-3 game to start the seventh, Yankees starter Carlos Rodon was removed after walking the leadoff hitter and then hitting the second batter, Jarren Duran, to put runners on first and second with nobody out.

Aaron Boone took out Rodon and went to Cruz, who came in and leaped to catch Ceddanne Rafaela’s sacrifice bunt attempt. Cruz then got Nick Sogard to fly out to Cody Bellinger in left field, but allowed a hit to Masataka Yoshida that loaded the bases.

Just as Story’s long fly ball was corraled by Grisham in deep center to end the inning, Cruz removed his Yankees cap and let all his emotions out for the Yankee Stadium crowd to see, pumping his fists in the air and screaming at the top of his lungs as he went back to the dugout.
