Lockdown lifted on Fort Stewart

HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) – [UPDATE 2:51 p.m.] Fort Stewart officials confirmed shots were fired near Engineer Road on Fort Stewart at around 2:09 p.m., Monday afternoon.

The suspect was apprehended within minutes of the incident, according to law enforcement.

Fort Stewart said they issued a lockdown for the installation at 2:20 p.m. and lifted the lockdown at 2:32 p.m. after the threat was cleared.

“The safety and security of our service members, civilian employees, and their families remain our top priority. The situation is currently contained, and we will provide additional updates as more information becomes available,” wrote Fort Stewart officials in a statement to WTOC.

Officials said there were no injuries involved in the incident.

[UPDATE 2:32 p.m.] Military officials announced a lockdown on Fort Stewart has been lifted minutes after it was announced.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Fort Stewart is currently on lockdown.

The Commander issued a Lock Down for Fort Stewart Monday afternoon.

“Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership,” wrote military officials on a social media post.
