Workweek Outlook: Unsettled, humid weather arrives this week

Hot and humid conditions develop by mid-week, with temperatures soaring to 29°C and humidex values climbing into the mid-30s
The Sault Ste. Marie region is in for a dynamic workweek weather pattern featuring multiple rounds of precipitation and a notable temperature rollercoaster. Gulf of Mexico moisture currently residing over the Central US Plains is on the move, racing northward to push this tropical air mass directly into Northern Ontario beginning Monday night. Hot and humid conditions develop by mid-week, with temperatures soaring to 29°C and humidex values climbing into the mid-30s. A cold front then arrives towards the end of the workweek, providing some relief. Between all these changes in airmass, we are going to see lots of opportunities for rain and storms.
Monday begins with mostly sunny skies, as high pressure to our east maintains its influence through the afternoon. Temperatures climb to 26°C by late afternoon under increasing cloud cover. Southeasterly winds at 10km/h, gusting to 30km/h, will usher in gradually thickening mid and high-level clouds from the west and southwest, though conditions will remain dry through the day.
Tuesday brings a significant pattern change, with widespread precipitation spreading across the region. Morning temperatures near 12°C will struggle to reach 22°C by the afternoon, as overcast skies and persistent rain keep conditions considerably cooler. Widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms will develop during the late morning hours and continue through the afternoon, with rainfall amounts of 10-15mm expected across most areas, though locally higher totals up to 25mm are possible where multiple rounds of heavy rain occur. Easterly winds at 10km/h will remain light throughout the day.
Wednesday will feature a dramatic temperature rebound as hot and humid conditions surge into Northern Ontario behind a warm front. Morning lows near 12°C will give way to highs approaching 29°C under partly to mostly cloudy skies, but humidex values in the mid-30s will make it feel muggy. South to southwesterly winds at 10-15km/h will provide little relief from the humidity. While the hot afternoon may initially remain dry, there’s potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop late in the day or evening. Any storms that do develop could produce locally heavy rainfall of 2-5mm, small hail, and gusty winds.
Thursday will start foggy, but we will see sunshine arrive, bringing daytime highs of 28°C and humidex values again in the 30s. A cold front arrives late in the day, bringing strong thunderstorms in the evening and overnight.
Cooler air arrives Friday under a mix of sun and cloud, with afternoon temperatures slipping to 23°C. There remains a chance of showers late in the day.
