A major search operation was launched overnight following reports of two people in distress off the coast of a beach in Carmarthenshire.

Police joined with the coastguard to locate two people in distress at Cefn Sidan beach. There were concerns that the two involved have encountered difficulty or harm at the location. However the search has now been stood down with no persons found, police have said.

The decision to conclude the search was made due to no missing person reports being made, and no further alerts of the same nature being recieved.

A police spokesperson said: “Further to a call received yesterday (8 June) concerned for individuals at Cefn Sidan beach, the information has been reviewed and officers are satisfied that there was no risk of harm or danger posed, though the call was made with good intent.

“With help from our partner agencies, a search of the beach and nearby area has been concluded with no persons found.

“No further calls of concern have been received, and no missing persons have been reported in the area.

“We always take reports of this nature seriously and we want to thank the public for their vigilance. Thank you to our partners for their assistance overnight.”
