It will be the 11th such draft in the league’s history.
The draft will feature two rounds of selections of 2011-born players, followed by six rounds of 2010-born players.
All eligible players must be Saskatchewan residents, previously undrafted, and not one of the two (or three) auto-protected players from an SJHL centre chosen by the respective clubs.
“The SJHL draft is an integral part of keeping the ‘S’ in the SJHL,” said SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.
“Our goal with our ‘stay here, play here’ programme is to provide more opportunities for Saskatchewan kids to stay in Saskatchewan, so that our players’ families and friends can watch their growth and development without having to stray too far from home.”
The draft will be streamed live on SJHL.ca, on SJHL’s YouTube Channel, and across the league’s social media networks from IKS Media’s Regina studio.
At the same time as Warman’s entry into the league ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, the SJHL limited how many locals can be auto-protected from the draft to that ceiling of two U15-aged players per birthyear (or three, should the respective team choose to forfeit a first-round U15 draft pick then).
This year, the regulations have been expanded to include those who reside immediately outside the respective SJHL community on acreages or farms within the trading area of that SJHL location. These players will count as one of the team’s two Auto Protects, provided the player has been registered in that community’s school for the majority of their school experience, and in that community’s minor hockey system for the majority of their minor hockey experience.
Teams will be required to submit those auto-protected players to the league by May 26.
All unprotected players are therefore free to be chosen within their appropriate age group.
“The SJHL is a Saskatchewan league for Saskatchewan kids inside the province of Saskatchewan,” McIntyre said.
