Emmerdale airs major exit for villain after being questioned by the police in early ITVX release

This article contains discussions of sexual assault that some readers may find distressing.

Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) has left Emmerdale village.

It comes after she sexually assaulted Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who bravely reported the incident to the police earlier this week.

For months, the twisted surgeon tried to siphon thousands of pounds out of Charity, threatening to expose a huge secret if she didn’t comply.

Todd discovered that, while trying to act as surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), Charity actually fell pregnant with Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) child instead. She’s then handed over the baby, Leyla, and allowed Sarah and husband Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) to raise her as their own.

Having begged, borrowed and stolen money from her friends and family – including the theft of £30,000 worth of goods from Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) depot – Charity knew that she wouldn’t be able to find the rest of the cash.

After drowning her sorrows, she passed out on the sofa and was assaulted by Todd.

In today’s episode, police darted into the village, and asked her to accompany them to the station for questioning. She was loading bags into the back of her car ahead of a new life in Sheffield, and wasn’t pleased to be delayed.

During the interview, Todd twisted the story, saying that she and Charity had consensual sex and that the allegations were false.

DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) was forced to let her leave until further forensics tests came back, and unfortunately delivered some bad news to the victim later that day. She explained that Charity’s physical examination had come back inconclusive, and therefore Todd couldn’t be charged.

Insisting that she still believed her, Reid asked whether there was anymore information that Charity had held back to support the case.

For a moment, it seemed like she was about to divulge the blackmail, but she retreated – completely losing faith in the justice system.

Outside on Main Street, Todd was saying her goodbyes to Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker). As she drove off in the direction of Sheffield, she waved at Charity out of the window.

Is this the last we’ve seen of her, and will she ever face justice?
