Police: Montgomery County woman illegally collected $50K in food stamp benefits

SPRAKERS, N.Y. (WNYT) — A Montgomery County woman is accused of illegally getting more than $50,000 in welfare benefits.

The Montgmery County Sheriff’s Office said a joint investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, the Department of Social Services and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office led to the arrest of 31-year-old Tiffany Butler, of Sprakers, on June 11.

Investigators allege Butler failed to report all people living in her household along with all employment and earned income. The release said she received $50,525.00 in SNAP benefits she was not entitled to between August 2022 and June 2026.

Butler faces eight counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and one count of welfare fraud in the second degree. She is being held pending arraignment in City of Amsterdam Court.
