False alarm prompts hazmat crew response at Pentagon

A “hazardous materials incident” at the Pentagon is prompted a Hazmat crew response on Thursday, but it ultimately turned out to be a false alarm.

7News national correspondent Ahtra Elnashar confirmed with sources that the incident was a false alarm.

A Pentagon spokesperson released a statement after the incident.

“Earlier this morning, Pentagon occupants were notified of a potential air quality issue, prompting immediate precautionary safety measures and evaluation. Subsequent testing confirmed no hazard exists, and normal operations have resumed. We express our sincere appreciation to the first responders for their swift actions to ensure the safety of all personnel.”

According to Arlington Fire & EMS, multiple units, including their Hazardous Materials Team, were called to the incident alongside the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s Hazmat team.

According to an internal memo sent to Pentagon employees, evacuations were conducted in the building between corridors 4 through 7, on floors 2 – 5, and A – E rings were instructed to remain in place until officials received results from testing.
