Hollywood star appears at ‘bucket list’ event in Wiltshire town

Damian Lewis is currently touring the UK to promote his new album Sweet Chaos, and on Sunday, June 7, performed a live set at Marlborough’s St Peter’s Church.

Paul Marriott and Debbie Roberts, who run The Blue Boar in neighbouring Aldbourne took the trip into town to watch him play and speak to him after the show.

The couple took to The Blue Boar’s Facebook page to describe their excitement at having the chance to “tick something off the bucket list”.

The couple said: “Last night we headed over to Marlborough to watch Damien Lewis perform tracks from his new album Sweet Chaos.

“We were fortunate enough to meet Damien afterwards and he kindly signed some items for our 506th PIR Memory Wall here at The Blue Boar.

“Of course, Damien is well known to many of us for his portrayal of Major Richard “Dick” Winters in the acclaimed TV series Band of Brothers, a role that introduced him to audiences around the world and helped launch an incredible acting career.

“With Aldbourne’s strong connection to Easy Company and the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, these signed pieces will make a fantastic addition to our growing collection of memorabilia and history displays.

“A huge thank you to Damien for taking the time to chat and sign the items, and we wish him every success with Sweet Chaos and the rest of the tour.”

In a note shared with this paper explaining Mr Lewis’s connection to Aldbourne through his role in Band of Brothers, Paul said: “Damian played Major Richard (Dick) Winters in Band of Brothers, we have American tour groups every weekend visiting the village and The Blue Boar on their tour of Europe following easy company’s route throughout WW11, Aldbourne was their home for 8 months prior to D-Day and the blue boar was used as the officers pub.

“It was Damian’s first major acting role so we got some bits signed for our 101-history wall at the pub.”

The appearance capped a busy weekend of celebrity activity for the landlords, who were thrilled to host Australian rock band Sticky Fingers for lunch on Sunday.

According to landlord Paul Marriott, the band were on their way to south Wales when they decided to swing by the pub after looking into military history in the area.
