A drama hailed as a “masterpiece” is set to air on Channel 4 this Saturday evening.
Originally released in 2022, the film is adapted from Delia Owens’ 2018 novel.
Produced by Reese Witherspoon and led by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Taylor John Smith, Where The Crawdads Sing has garnered widespread acclaim from audiences, with viewers describing it as “beautiful” and “mesmerising”.
The story centres on Normal People actress Daisy, who portrays Kya, a young girl left to fend for herself in the wilderness after being abandoned.
When a local boy from the nearby North Carolina town is discovered dead after falling from a tower, suspicion quickly falls upon Kya, reports the Mirror.

The narrative delves into her troubled childhood, following her mother and four siblings’ escape from their abusive father, who subsequently abandons seven-year-old Kya alone in their marshland dwelling.
Shunned by the local community, she scrapes a living selling mussels at a store in the town, while her sole companion, Tate, teaches her to read.
A romance blossoms between them, but when Tate departs for university and never returns, Kya finds herself isolated once more.
Some years on, Kya enters into a relationship with a well-known local lad, only to discover he is engaged to another woman. Frightened by his violent behaviour towards her, she threatens to kill him.

When he’s found dead, Kya is put on trial, with speculative evidence, the people of the town and her missing necklace working against her. But is she guilty?
The mystery left fans gripped, with one calling it “the best movie” of that year, while another said: “Never wanted it to end.”
“It is simply one of the most beautiful movies I’ve seen for many years,” another said, as someone else wrote: “A cinematic masterpiece: a heart-touching beautiful love story.”
“Gripping, makes you fall in love with life again,” another said.
One called it “NOT To Be Missed,” as another said: “This movie is better than Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze.”

Fans called it a “must see”, saying it left them “invested,” as one person wrote: “Coming of age masterpiece.”
“Gripping emotional rollercoaster,” another echoed, while one admitted it “struck a heart chord”.
Following the reviews from the film, Daisy told Elle that “it’s been the thing that most people come up to say they loved”.
“For some people, it’s their favorite film. How amazing is that? And I had the best time, and I think it’s a great film,” she went on.
She added: “Art is so subjective, and you can’t control how people respond. You can only do something with goodwill and to learn something from it yourself, I suppose. And then how people respond is because of their context and what they need.”
Where The Crawdads Sing airs on Saturday, June 13 at 9pm on Channel 4
