Haiti v Scotland – World Cup Group C match preview

Ryan Christie is set to drop OUT of Scotland’s starting XI with John McGinn replacing him in the only change from the line-up in last week’s pre-World Cup friendly win against Bolivia.

Europa League-winning Aston Villa skipper McGinn has been his country’s talisman his 20 goals in 86 caps making him the fourth in the all-time list of top scorers, just two behind Hibs legend Lawrie Reilly.

And Clarke looks set to turn to the 31-year-old star for the Group C opener against Haiti in the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, where Scotland are desperately looking to get off to a winning start with tougher games against Morocco and five-time champions Brazil to come.

McGinn started on the bench against Bolivia in New Jersey seven days ago and sources have told Record Sport that 10 of the 11 players who started that game will be on Clarke’s team sheet again – with Bournemouth star Christie, who has 68 caps after making his debut nine years ago, the man dropping out and McGinn replacing him on the left.

Record Sport’s Keith Jackson, in the USA, told the Hotline Live show ahead of the mammoth game: “We have heard… it’s not confirmed, but we’ve heard a team from someone we can have a pretty decent amount of faith in.

“The information is probably correct but not verified. According to this source the team will be the exact same as started against Bolivia except one change.

“Unfortunately for Ryan Christie he drops out and John McGinn comes in on off the left.”
