Police: Woman, Amtrak train shot while traveling through Wilson

A woman is in the hospital on Sunday after authorities said she was hit by gunfire as a train was passing through Wilson the day before.
According to the Wilson Police Department, deputies with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office were called to reports of gunshots involving an Amtrak train around 11:15 p.m. Saturday near Boswellville Road and Lely Road.
When they arrived, they found a woman on the train with a gunshot wound to her head. Deputies said the woman was alert and conscious when first responders arrived at the scene, and EMS took her to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies determined that the train was shot at while it was passing through Wilson city limits, with police officers in Wilson believing the initial shooting happened in the 600 block of Walnut Street.
