Duffer Brothers Paramount Movie Sets Release Date

Paramount has announced the release date for its first theatrical feature from Matt and Ross Duffer, the duo behind Netflix’s phenomenon Stranger Things.
Currently untitled, the film is slated to open wide on November 3, 2028. There are no other details yet on this project, other than it being an “event film” that the Duffers will direct from their own script.
The Duffer Brothers made waves in August 2025 when they announced they were moving over to Paramount with a four-year exclusive film, TV and streaming deal, after breaking out as A-list creators at Netflix. The signing was a statement move for David Ellison post Paramount-Skydance merger — a declaration of his intention to make the studio the go-to destination for top-tier, culture-shaping talent. Other early examples of this following the closure of the merger last summer included deals for director James Mangold — who went to them with the hot Timothée Chalamet motorcycling package High Side — plus Will Smith and his Westbrook banner, and Wicked‘s Jon M. Chu.
On the streaming front at Paramount, the Duffers reunite with Cindy Holland and Matt Thunell, executives who championed Stranger Things during their time at Netflix and now serve as Chair of Direct-to-Consumer and President of Paramount Television, respectively, at the rival studio. The duo’s move to Paramount was attributed to a desire to make films for the big screen, which in spite of recent dealings with Greta Gerwig and David Fincher, has never been of much interest to Netflix.
The Duffer Brothers wrapped up the fifth and final season of Stranger Things on New Year’s Eve 2025. Since then, they’ve unveiled the animated Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, plus two other series they exec produced for Netflix: Haley Z. Boston’s wedding-themed horror Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and sci-fi horror series The Boroughs from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. The Duffers’ deal with Netflix expired in April.
