A yellow warning for winds of up to 70mph has been issued for all of Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of England and Wales, from 15:00 on Friday to midnight on Saturday.
Parts of the north and west of Scotland have seen that warning upgraded to amber, although Glasgow remains on yellow.
A yellow warning for heavy rain has also been issued for across Scotland.
A spokesperson for the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run 2025, external said organisers were disappointed, but hoped participants would understand the decision.
She said: “The forecasted winds and gusts compromise our event infrastructure including our medical facilities.
“This, combined with the risk from potential debris mean that we can’t guarantee the safe delivery of the Saturday Junior & Mini event.
“Safety of our participants, staff and volunteers is our number one priority.”
Participants have been given details about how they can roll their entry over into next year’s event or claim a refund.
An event medal will also be sent to all child participants so that they can complete their runs in their own time.
More than 32,000 runners are expected to take part in Sunday’s event.
